Repair vs. rebuild
If the posts, joists, and ledger are sound, replacing surface boards and railings restores the deck for a fraction of a rebuild. If the framing is rotted or the ledger is not properly attached, we will tell you it is a rebuild, which is a permitted project.
Pressure-treated vs. composite decking
Matching existing pressure-treated boards is the cheapest repair. If you are replacing most of the surface, composite decking costs more but ends the staining cycle. We install both.
Stain, seal, or paint
Semi-transparent stain shows the wood and needs renewal every two to three years here; solid stain lasts longer and hides mismatched boards. We only paint decks when the surface is already painted.
Fence post repair vs. replacement
A post rotted at the base can sometimes be sistered with a steel post repair bracket; a post rotted through is replaced and set in new concrete. We will recommend based on what we find when we dig.

Is composite decking worth it?
If you are replacing most of the surface anyway and want to stop staining, yes. For replacing a few boards on a pressure-treated deck, matching wood is the sensible repair.
