A garage door is the largest moving object in most homes, and it usually gets attention only when it stops: a spring snaps with a bang, the opener hums but the door does not move, or the door comes down crooked and reverses. We handle the repair end of garage doors across Harford County — new openers, broken springs, frayed cables, worn rollers, bent track, keypads and remotes, and the seasonal tune-up that prevents most of those calls.
Full door replacement is quoted case by case after we look at the opening and the existing hardware. If a repair will not hold, we say so rather than sell you a part that fails again in a year.

Your options
Repair vs. replace the opener
Openers from the last ten years with a stripped gear or a failed board are often worth repairing. Older chain-drive units without safety sensors, or any opener from before 1993, are replaced — modern units are quieter, safer, and add battery backup and phone control.
Belt drive vs. chain drive
Belt drives are quieter and the default for a garage under a bedroom. Chain drives cost less and are fine for a detached garage. Both get the same rail, sensors, and keypad.
One spring or both
When one torsion spring breaks, the other has the same cycle count and is close behind. We replace both so you are not paying a second service call in a few months. Springs are matched to the door's weight, not swapped for whatever is on the truck.
Repair the door or replace it
Bent panels, rusted-through sections, or a door that cannot be balanced are candidates for replacement. We quote that separately after measuring; for most homes a repair is the right call.
Before you book
Springs are dangerous
Torsion springs are under high tension and injure people every year. If a spring has broken, do not try to lift the door with the opener or by hand — unplug the opener and call. This is not a DIY repair.
Safety sensors are not optional
Photo-eye sensors and the auto-reverse function are required on every opener installed since 1993. We test both on every visit and will not leave an opener in service with the sensors bypassed.
HOA and door appearance
Repairs do not need approval. If a door or panel is replaced in an HOA community (common in Bel Air South, Abingdon, and Bulle Rock), the style and color usually need sign-off first.
Power at the ceiling
A new opener needs a grounded outlet within reach of the motor. If there is none, adding one is electrical work for a licensed electrician; we will tell you before the install is scheduled.

Garage Door Repair — questions we get
My garage door spring broke. Can I still open the door?
Do not try. A door with a broken spring weighs its full weight — often 150 pounds or more — and the opener is not built to lift it. Unplug the opener, leave the door where it is, and call. Spring replacement is usually a same-visit repair.
Why replace both springs when only one broke?
Both springs have the same number of cycles on them. The second one typically fails within months, which means paying for a second service call. Replacing both at once costs little more in parts.
How long does an opener installation take?
Two to three hours for a standard replacement, including the rail, sensors, wall button, keypad, and remote programming. Adding a Wi-Fi opener to your phone is done before we leave.
The opener runs but the door doesn't move. What is it?
Most often a stripped drive gear inside the opener, a broken spring, or a disconnected trolley. Each has a different cost, and we can usually tell which from a photo and a description of the sound.
The door reverses before it closes. Why?
Usually the photo-eye sensors are misaligned or blocked, or the close-force setting is too sensitive. Sometimes it is a binding roller or track. All are quick repairs.
Do you replace whole garage doors?
Case by case. We quote full door replacement after measuring the opening and checking the framing. For most homes a repair is the sensible choice, and we say so when it is.
Do you work on Bulle Rock and other HOA communities?

How often should a garage door be serviced?
Once a year: lubricate rollers, hinges, and springs, tighten hardware, check the balance, and test the safety reverse. It is the cheapest way to avoid the emergency spring call.
