Clogged gutters are the most common cause of the wet-basement and rotted-fascia calls we get in Harford County. The county's tree cover — oaks, maples, and tulip poplars — drops seed pods in late spring and a heavy leaf load in November, and gutters that are not cleared twice a year overflow at the corners and dump water at the foundation.

Guards: which ones and whether
Micro-mesh guards handle the seed pods and pine needles that get through cheaper screens, but no guard is maintenance-free — pollen and shingle grit still build up on top. Guards make sense on tall or hard-to-access runs; on a one-story ranch, twice-yearly cleaning is often the better value.
Repair vs. replace a run
Sagging and leaking gutters are usually repairable by re-hanging and resealing. Gutters that are rusted through, badly dented, or undersized for the roof area are replaced by section.

Where the water goes matters more than the gutter
A clean gutter with a downspout that dumps at the foundation still causes a wet basement. We check that every downspout discharges at least a few feet from the house and add extensions where it does not.
Fascia and roof edge
If gutters have been overflowing for a while, the fascia board behind them is often soft. We can replace fascia sections. Damage to the roof deck or shingles above the gutter is roofing work and we will refer it.
Height and access
We work from ladders on one- and two-story homes. Steep roofs, three-story sections, and gutters over sunrooms or fragile landscaping take extra setup and are priced accordingly.

When should gutters be cleaned in Harford County?
Twice a year for most homes: late spring after the maple seeds and oak tassels drop, and again in mid-to-late November once the oaks have finished. Homes under heavy tree cover often need a third cleaning.
My gutters are overflowing but they look clean. Why?
Usually a clogged downspout, a gutter that has lost its pitch and holds water, or an undersized outlet. We flush the downspouts and check the pitch as part of every cleaning.
Are gutter guards worth it?
On tall or hard-to-reach runs, yes — they reduce cleaning frequency and risk. On a one-story home, twice-yearly cleaning is often cheaper over ten years than guards. No guard is maintenance-free.
Can you fix a gutter that is pulling away from the house?
Yes. We re-hang with hidden hangers screwed into solid fascia and correct the pitch. If the fascia behind it is rotted, we replace that section first.
Do you install new gutters?
We replace damaged sections and short runs. For a whole-house replacement in seamless aluminum, a gutter company with a roll-forming truck is usually the more economical choice, and we will say so.
Will you check my roof while you are up there?
We will tell you what we see from the ladder — a loose shingle, exposed nails, a lifted flashing — but we do not do roofing repairs. That goes to a licensed roofer.
Do you need me to be home?
Not for exterior gutter work, as long as we have access to the yard and an outdoor spigot. We send a note when the job is done.
